The Sheffield Township Library has been serving the community for over 100 years! The library was started in August of 1922.  Sheffield Centennial: Programme and Historical Outline, 1836-1936, 1936, pp. 23–23 reports:  "The Sheffield Township Library was organized June 29, 1922, and opened September 16, 1922.  Mrs. Elizabeth Johnston has served continuously as librarian since 1922.  The library has been located from its inception in the I. O. O. F. Building."

The following article was written by Gary Whippo for the "Valley Voice" in 1986.  Notice the addition to the top of the page regarding Janet Gustafson who, at the time, had been the librarian for 10 years.  Janet continued to serve in this position until the end of 2018, a tenure of over 30 years! Alexis McAvoy served in the director position from January 2019 through the COVID pandemic until the end of August 2022.  Christine Porter took over at that time followed by Roberta Foster and Interim Director Karen Rubright until Alexis McAvoy returned in the spring of 2025 as the present director. During these last few years the library has been updated in all areas; the collection, the programming, the physical space arrangement, and the services offered.  The Sheffield Township Library is a place for all of the community.
